Before I get into the main thing of the post, Uk people there’s gonna be MCR shows in London next year (details here) and tickets go on sale Friday morning.

I’m probably gonna give it a miss? Going to London is a hassle and it feels like the process will just be stressful. And, well, practically and emotionally I don’t feel I could go alone. But if anyone else is gonna try I wish you luck.

(I’m also still annoyed Waterparks just has one show in London too why does London have to get everything)

Anyway, onto the main post topic, which is about the film All The Gods In The Sky, which is a film that just came to shudder this past week. Here is the description, which is pretty vague.

It’s one of those descriptions that’s vague enough that could go anywhere but what caught my eye was the poster on imdb which is pretty decidpving for two reasons. One it makes out like tentacles feature prominently (there is an octopus in two scenes but that’s it) and the other is it makes out like the main female character is black which she is very much not.

Before I get in my main thoughts though there is a technical issue with it. The film is French so it’s subtitled. However there is an issue with the subtitles. Several times they’re just… not there. Simon has a conversation with his boss and his boss says a few sentences of dialogue but only one word is subtitled. A social work shows up and I hear her say telephone but that’s not translated at all. Also sometimes some subtitles flash up and go too quick. Like it’s not a deal breaker, you can still follow along with the story, but it does feel odd.

Thoughts under the cut, so they’ll get spoilery.

Plan today is mostly to:
*go on a Donkey Kong Bananza to finish the tempest layer
*Fic some
*read some

The past few days have been pretty bleh. Mostly it’s cause mum decided to come down late Thursday night to complain and bemoan stuff. Ts pretty clear from that, and her moaning earlier that she’s not interested in going out next week to Birmingham like planned (despite it being her idea!) so it’s likely not going to happen.

But yeah the whole complaining a mix of complaining about her friend coming, mums on indecisiveness and then my own lack of energy ended up with my mood lowering even more than it already was. I was about to settle down to watch Hell Of A Summer but ugh, she completely ruined the mood so I couldn’t do anything.

The next day was spent upstairs, my brain almost completely switched off.

The Kerrmag zines I’d ordered did come but I didn’t have the focus for them. I’ve still not got the code for Micheal Clifford’s album (I thought it might be included with the zine for some reason) but I saw people had issues with the signed version which I missed out on. (It was meant to have a card signed by Micheal and Awsten, but none of them are signed by Awsten so people are understandably mad)

It did eventually improve enough at night so that I headed down (only after mum had gone up) and watched Hell Of A Summer. It was decent enough summer camp slasher fare, though itI half expected Finn Wolfhard to be a victim (after all these things usually end with most of the cast dead but a surprising amount survived). Also one of the other guts was cute too.

Yesterday again I spent it mostly upstairs. This time I took some stuff up, though I didn’t touch any of my reading material. I did go on Donkey Kong Bananza and did a decent chunk of the Tempest Layer at least until my brain tuned out again. (Though I at least watched some Murder She Wrote eps and some of shoto’s spooky Saturday stream)

Night time I watched Miss Marple (Sleeping Murder which was pretty good, then Men In Black International (I’d seen it before and it was a pretty fun time) and then Barbarian. I’d not seen it before and I went in pretty blind. I’m not gonna say much, but I liked the opening third. I’m less sure about the rest though.

Today’s so far been watching Phineas And Ferb (hence the title), 7 Wonders (the 5 app finally worked so I could see it) and Wednesday. I didn’t expect but loved the use of Apocalyptica and I still love the cute barista guy.

Other things
*I saw that there’s a kinktober list (and there’s a dead dove one too) will I try and do it? Who knows. I have my own table I’ve not touched so is adding another a good idea? I dunno, I guess we’ll see
*I have fallen down a 5 Seconds Of Summer reading hole. I really need to do something with them
*also for some reason I’m getting a load of kudos again what’s up with that?
*I was gonna sort through the MCC cards but didn’t cause of lack of focus ugh
*I saw this and wanna know where it’s from cause it’s wild for Ray to describe a show as being like ‘getting fucked’
*Twitter’s age verification is finally ‘working’ I say working because it doesn’t. The age estimation selfie doesn’t work so it just wants an ID a which… nope. There’s no way I’m trusting it with that (not that I know where one actually is). Ugh I hate this.

Anyway gonna maybe sort icons before DND and then who knows? I’m hoping to see Weapons this coming week and start Alien Earth (and hopefully get back to Hell Motel). And I wanna fic and get back to reading Clown In A Cornfield but we’ll see.

I do wanna try tonight to watch All The Gods In The Sky. I don’t really know anything about it but the poster made me curious. We’ll see if I have the focus for subtitles.

So before I get into the main post, I opened the MCC cards Monday and Tuesday. Overall it was a good haul with 2 signed cards and quite a few shinies. Unfortunately some of them are multiples and are for ones I don’t care for, so I’m hoping there’ll be ways to swap. I am sad I didn’t get the rare Seapeekay, all of the Purpled or 5up cards or the Techno cards. I dunno if it’s worth getting an overstock box when they do them (I dunno how much they’ll be) but people are already selling rares for £15 a pop. Ouch.

The official discord is gonna be opening up trades so fingers crossed there’s uk people interested in ones I have.

Also damnit! I was watching a Fandom live thing on eBay and the price went down 40% and I was gonna try and get it once I’d put my money in. Alas I just checked and it’s gone, fuck. I should’ve just done it on mums and paid the money in there. Ugh that’s gonna annoy me cause it’s so hard to find. (Anyone know a site that has it?)

Anyway today was the cinema trip to see Superman and the mystery showing. To quote Mamma Mia ‘it’s an adventure it’ll be good for you’ so that was my mindset.

I did spent a bit of time looking around the town beforehand, mostly cause of getting to the bank. But damn it is sad. There’s one shopping arcade by the bank and it was just… it had three shops. Three. That was so sad.

From a charity shop I got a DBD of somehting called Paradise Lost and Dispicable Me 2 on blu ray and a purse that looks like a fox. From Game I picked up a black series figure (Morgan from The Mandalorian/Ahsoka/Tales Of The Empire) and a Vulpix and Ninetales set. From Smiths I got the Fantastic 4 comic, though it was sneaky, and two 2025 annuals.

Then it was off to the cinema. Before I saw anything I almost gasped cause the price of the ticket to the Superman showing alone would’ve been almost as much as the month long cinema pass, which is so crazy. So just this trip would’ve more than paid for it.

The trailers for Superman were largely the same as Fantastic 4 - The Odyssey, The Running Man (why does no one simply hide in nature instead of be in a city?), a wrestling thing with Dwayne Johnson (I missed the name and The Life Of Chuck which I know nothing about but I was surprised when it said it was by Stephen King cause it seemed so… I dunno not scary?

Also the trailers for the mystery film . Not a trailer but there was a weird kfc ad that felt cannibal coded because why did a group of people dip a cute guy into water and he came out as a breaded piece of chicken?? Anyway! there was a trailer for The Black Phone 2 and it looks so good that I wanna see it. What is it about October 17th though? There’s the Coheed gig I’m thinking of going to, Pokémon ZA and now this. Then there was Him which I’m really curious about. Then there was The Long Walk which still hasn’t sold me though it is funny that Mark Hamill is in both of the Stephen king trailers (and I didn’t realise he was in walk until comic con. Them there was The Conjuring and Weapons as well as one for Jaws’ 50th anniversary which I’ve not seen in a long time so maybe I will.

Anyway! Superman thoughts.

ExpandRead more... )

After Superman I decided to try the cinema food cause of having the discount. There’s a little restaurant and it has nachos, pizza and a few things. Apparently you can get the pizza sent straight up to you in the cinema which is strange. I tried a capri pizza which was nice enough, though they gave you a strange device that beeps when the food is done, which was strange but pretty cool.

Then I went up for the ✨Mystery film✨. What was it? Find out under the cut.

One worry I had was it’d end after a train came and I’d be waiting for 50 minutes for the next one. Luckily I could catch the train without waking. Funnily on the way to the station I noticed a restaurant called the Toro Steakhouse and then also a poster for Walsall pride. I didn’t even know the town had one?? It’s at the end of the month so maybe I’ll go if I have the energy. I might look it for more info.

That’s the name of the game

So I had intended to do a locked feels post after the last one, but instead of writing my feelings and thoughts down I got sidetracked and then… lost the will for it. Ah well.

(And ugh I’m sure I posted this an hour ago and it didn’t go through so I have to redo it)

On Sunday I put on Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, cause I wanted to after the first film the other week and watching it gave me thoughts so…

So for anyone that hasn’t seen the Mamma Mia films the first film is this feel good musical film, about a girl, Sophie, inviting three potential dads to her wedding, hoping she’d know which one is her ‘real’ dad a first sight. It’s fun, it’s a bit silly and watching it puts ABBA songs in my head for days.

The second film is also a musical but it’s a bit more messy. It’s one of those films that you wonder what exactly the pitch was. Like yeah making a sequel is a good idea and it makes sense (and all the core main cast came back) but at the same time…

There’s two threads here, flashbacks to the past of Donna coming to the island and meeting the three dads. This is where it feels strongest and, honestly, it could have easily been expanded into a full prequel. The other thread is the present and the whole thing has this… Melancholy tone. Donna has died the year before (though there’s no detail as to how) and it’s just dealing with the aftermath of that. It’s a very odd choice, especially as not even used as a framing device.

For instance the past scenes are in a chronological order, but they can’t be reminiscences or characters telling Sophie memories. Like theres sections of the past where the only people there are Donna and two of Sophie’s dads (seperately) but they aren’t even on the island to tell Sophie so…

Like I said it makes me wonder what was going on. Like it feels they could have made it a full prequel but for some reason weren’t confidant enough to it so included the cast from the original but like… you could have easily made it about the characters telling Sophie what happened as a framing device so I dunno.

But anyway.

Today ended up being exhausting. Mums friend came today and, as always she got us to do some things. I didn’t mind as much because I was intending on using her bus pass to go to town anyway to go to Iceland but… ugh. I went out for the bus and waited for 40+ minutes and 2 buses were due but neither showed up,

Turns out the buses made a detour because of roadworks but there was no indication at the bus stop. Not a poster, not a note, even the digital sign thing acted as normal. Plus the roadworks hadn’t even started and cars, vans even a lorry or two went through the road so I assumed the bus would too.

I came back home and checked the site and apparently the bus was meant to pick up a few stops earlier, so I went to check, partly to go and part so mums friend would know to go there. But again, I waited for over 40 mins and, again, no sign of anything.

I came back and mum called them up and it seems the bus had made another detour and hadn’t bothered to they’ll them why so fuck knows what’s going on. At least I didn’t have an appointment or anything. Mums friend went home in a taxi she called but ugh. It means I couldn’t get anything from Iceland and, cause I was counting on it I can’t add stuff to the shop either, at least I’m going Wednesday and can put money on then.

But eh that’s almost two hours standing and waiting lost.

At least the MCC cards came but I’ve not opened them yet.

Speaking of Wednesday I have a theory on the mystery film. Assuming the film is an upcoming one I’m suspecting it might be Together, which suits me as I was thinking of seeing that. Of course I could be wrong and there’s no hints or anything posted to guess (I dunno if there even will be). But there is another mystery film on the 26th too.

I did look at the cinemas coming soon for the month and there are a few I might see. Nothing I’d have probably seen without the pass, but since I have it? There’s The Bad Guys 2 (though that’s already out), Freakier Friday (ok mainly I wanna see this for Manny Jacinto), Together, Weapons and Bring Her Back (the last one is a maybe). I might double up and see some depending on the time. And, of course there’s seeing The Naked Gun but that’ll be in Birmingham.

Tonight’s plan is to go on ESO, fic some (I am making progress though alas it’s late at night mostly) and flop in general. I might watch one of the new to shudder films, All The Gods In The Sky, cause I looked it up on IMDb and it mentions body horror (and a tentacle poster) so I’m curious. Alas it’s subtitled so I need to be in the right focus for it but hopefully this week sometime.

So there’s another month gone… somehow.

Again it’s another month of doing something for most things, which is good. I do have a tendency to get a bit antsy in the last days if I don’t, which did lead to a few things being done.

I still haven’t read free comic book day books which sucks cause they’re like… right there and I haven’t touched them. But I did read the Fantastic 4 issue I picked up from Smiths. It’s a reprinting and has two issues in it and it was pretty good (and had Johnny shirtless which was a plus, though his facial hair…). The next issue should be out now so I’m gonna look for it.

Those Hundred Thousand Lights was another thing I read, which I picked up at comic book day. It was pretty good and yay for having a same sex couple and also a non-binary Nautolan (and a funny droid). Again whenever I read High Republic stuff it makes me wanna read more, and I did get a book from the sale, but my reading ability is… off.

I ended listening to a few of the Torchwood audios I have, mostly cause they’re only an hour (compared to other Who audios which tend to be 2+). They are all pretty varied (only Ghost Mission and Goodbye Picaldily share characters) and they were pretty good. Ghost Mission was perhaps my fav of them (and The Vigil the weakest).

I also had an audible code from Seapeekay so I listened to Unlicensed which is by the guys that made Night Vale. I did like the opening so I am gonna listen to more, it’s just a matter of when. (Again, focus has been off)

Plans for this month
*Watch the Stranger Things finale
*Finish a fic from the prompt table (I had over a dozen started but..)
*Finish Hell Motel
*Finish reading Clown In A Cornfield
*Start next Read Christie (Crooked House) and hopefully read other things
*At least two cinema trips, possibly three
*Finish Donkey Kong Bananza

I’m sure I have other things I wanna do but mind is blank, as always

Thursday I had to run down to Home Bargains to get some stuff. I popped in Game and got a cute lil Cinamoroll Funko (he even has a lil cake!) and they had the Gelatinous. Ube they did for the Dungeons And Dragons film on offer so I picked that up too. From home bargains I picked up a rock painting kit and a colouring book, then I picked up a lil furby thing. I was only gonna check the price (cause it wasn’t labelled) but it wasn’t in the system so they had to get someone to sort it and then I felt too bad to say no. So now I have a cute lil furry furblet friend.

Since it’s August now the new Shudder listings got posted and ugh, you can tell the taglines are copy pasted between regions. How do I know? The uk one’s tagline mentioned killer clowns but the uk line up has none. By comparison the us one had at least two (including Clown In A Cornfield, I dunno why we don’t get it at the same time considering it’s shudders own thing)

Also yay the MCC cards are finally in the country so hopefully they’ll be here soon. (And I just checked tracking and it says Monday Yayy)

Mums friend is coming Monday which is annoying but I’ll be able to use her bus ticket to pick up some Iceland stuff.

Today’s plans are Seapeekay stream, hopefully fic, then Proms and Marple.

I might try and make a post later, but it’s a coin flip if it’s a fic or a post processing thoughts/feels.

Everything is fuzzy

The last few days have been kinda… I dunno how to explain it. Kinda weird and low energy sometimes. Like at times it feels like my brain is just… switched off which is annoying. At least there’s only low levels of random sadness in brief parts so it’s not fully depression or anything it’s just… occasional bleh.

But anyway.

First things I meant to post about in the other post but slipped my mind completely at the time.

Friday was the Arrow reveals for October. I had high hopes that there’d be something good, after all last October had J-Horror Rising and Trick R Treat. Plus I was also hoping for a Clown In A Cornfield uk release cause Arrow has the Shudder licence and released one thing already (at least). Alas no Clown and no J-Horror boxset either. There was Three Extremes, which is combined with something just called Three, so I might get that. And there’s also In The Mouth Of Madness which I’m curious about too. (Has anyone seen that? Is it good?) I have had a code for 20% so I might see if I can use it on preorders.

Also I was on insta the other day and there’s a Birmingham Horror film festival happening in October, which I’m kinda curious about. I’m waiting for more specific details about timing and the films, cause all it says is it’s happening on the 11th and 12th. Tickets don’t seem too bad either, it’s £15 a day or £28 for both. It could be a fun thing to do, but I’ll keep an eye out for more details.

And speaking of films the cinema has posted show times for next week so the plan is to go and see Superman before the mystery film showing next week. (Weather and mindset permitting.) I’ve never been to a mystery showing of anything before so I’m hopefully it’ll be something good.

As mentioned the last days were a bit low energy but I did start watching Wednesday. I went in mostly blind but I wanted to check it out cause the season 2 trailer did look interesting. I didn’t expect to get sold on it as much as I did, but I really enjoyed it and I’m suitably intruiged by the mysteries set up by the end. Mum was watching it too which surprised me. I think it’ll become a regular Sunday thing to watch.

(And yeah I still haven’t watched the Stranger Things finale, I dunno why the length is just so off putting but it is and it hasn’t helped with my eyes being so achy these past months.)

And I’m still hopeful about finishing Hell Motel and getting back to American Horror story. It’s just hating time zones and bad mindsets. Bleh.

Last night I just ended up watching the Pokémon stream which is fun to watch cause it’s playing old episodes, though damn it was jarring. One moment they were in the orange islands, with Tracy and Ash getting the last badge and then the next they were in Johto with Brock, so there was a massive skip of episodes which was a shame.

I am back to reading Clown In A Cornfield and I read 5 chapters yesterday, and would have read more if it didn’t go so dark. I’m hoping to read another after lunch. It’s gonna be interesting watching the film once I’ve read it to catch the differences.

But after this I wanna get back to reading more. I need to do the Read Christie books and I wanna get back to the Star Wars ones too but it’s having the focus which is so annoying.

I wanna try and work on fic, finally finishing something for the prompt table I’ve had for months. And I also wanna post the one to ao3 but my brain has be just been, again, bleh.

(And ugh don’t get me started about our government pushing censorship with a ‘think of the children,’ narrative cause… ugh)
